Bill Simons' Fort Devens Days - Summer /Fall 1959

Pvt. William W. Simons

I made one trip into Boston with a buddy who took me to a Boston Pops concert at the bandshell in the park alongside the Charles river.

I remember using a back gate to re-enter the camp whenever I stayed too long in town partying. We followed an unused set of railroad tracks back to a padlocked chain link gate. There was plenty of space at the bottom of the gate to crawl under and get back to your barracks and avoid meeting the MPs at the front gate.

Fort Devens - Late 1959.
Bill smoking his "peep", one of numerous attempts to give
up cigarettes while in the Army , besides it made him look older
and more "distinguished", not to mention extremely intelligent.
Bill finally quit smoking for good on November 20, 1980.
On the back of this snapshot - "Pvt. William Simons being
awarded the "Unshaped-Up Trooper Trophy" by Pfc. Billings for
having the most distinctive and representative equipment display.
Along with the trophy goes one week of latrine clean-up detail."
Bill and his best friend while stationed at Fort Devens.
I must be getting old, can't remember his name at all.
Can anyone help me out??
