I was at Fort Devens from August 1959 to January 1960. I have a number of color slides which I would be happy to share. I can't remember what company I was in, however
my barracks sat along side the large pond. Maybe someone else can remember.

This is one of my favorite photos, It was a friend of mine from Louisiana. I think his last name was Williams. He hated showers and would take a "bath" in the mop sink!

I was later stationed with him in Rothwesten, Kassel, Germany where I remember several eventful trips into town with Williams. I will not bore you will them all, however one morning, (4:00am), we returned to the train station to catch the last bus back to base. Standing in the doorway was a musclebound 6'+ German blocking our way.
William's, who stood a little over 5' said "pardon me." The German just sneered at him.

The next thing I know, Williams leaps off the ground and lands a right to the jaw. The German went down like a tree and we walked in over him. He was out for so long I thought he had killed him. When he woke up he got up, looked at us and left.

This is a picture of the "bier garten"! You would walk up, get your can of 3.2 beer, sit down and have a moment of fun.

I recall being in that large classroom with the circle shaped table at Devens one day. We sat on the outside and the instructor was in the middle. That day the doors opened up during class and two guys in civilian clothes walked in. They circled the room and stopped behind a guy from my barracks and tapped him on the shoulder and escorted him out. It was the last we saw of him. When we got back to the barracks his stuff was gone and the mattress was rolled up on his bunk! I knew he was up for K.P. so I went down to look at the roster on the bulletin board and it was a new roster already.
